What we do
The Commission for Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ-speaking Communities was set up by the Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖto make recommendations aimed at strengthening Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ-speaking communities.
Setting up a Commission was one of the recommendations of the report Second Homes: Developing new policies in Wales (2021).
On 8 August 2024, the Chair of the Commission, Dr Simon Brooks, presented the Commission’s report, Empowering Communities, strengthening the Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ Language, to the First Minister. The Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖwill respond to the report and its recommendations in 2025.
In August 2024, the First Minister launched the second phase of the Commission’s work, which will look at the future of the Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ language as a community language in other parts of Wales and beyond.
