Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ

Today, I’m announcing the publication of the Cymraeg 2050 Action Plan for 2024-25. This document describes how we’ll continue to implement the objectives contained in our strategy, Cymraeg 2050: A million Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ speakers during the 2024-25 financial year.

The Action Plan reflects the steps set out in the Cymraeg 2050 Work Programme for 2021-2026, as well as our Programme for Government and the Co-operation Agreement with Plaid Cymru. The Plan outlines the work the Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖwill undertake during the 2024-25 financial year to deliver against the two main targets, as follows:

• The number of Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ speakers to reach 1 million by 2050.
• The percentage of the population that speak Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ daily, and can speak more than just a few words of Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ, to increase from 10% (in 2013-15) to 20% by 2050.

This year, we will continue to work under the three themes within our language strategy:

• Increase the number of Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ speakers.
• Increase the use of Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ. 
• Creating favourable conditions – infrastructure and context.

Our work will be undertaken across various Ministerial portfolios and with a wide range of stakeholders across Wales and beyond. We will do this in order to move forward on our journey towards a million Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ-speakers and to double the daily use of our language.
