This report presents the Annual Population Survey (APS) results on people’s ability to speak, read, write and understand spoken Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ. It also presents the results for how often people speak Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ.
The Census of Population is the key source used to measure the number of Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ speakers in Wales. A far greater number of people are recorded as speaking Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ in the APS than in the Census and this has grown in recent years. This bulletin explores some of the reasons why the APS and Census results may differ.

As the APS provides quarterly results, it is useful to use the APS to look at trends in the Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ language between censuses.
