This advice was drafted based on the available evidence at time of writing from both Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ and UK level advisory groups and was assembled at pace to support policy colleagues and Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ ministers. The purpose of scientific advice is to provide an overview of what we know and what can be inferred indirectly from the evidence base or by a consensus of expert opinion. As a result of the rapidly developing situation regarding Omicron there was still uncertainty when this paper was submitted and this was caveated in the advice. Subsequent advice from TAG, submitted before a formal policy decision was made and considering additional emerging evidence such as Wales-specific NHS modelling from Swansea University.
