The Independent Advisory Group on the Future Electricity Grid for Wales met on 29 January 2025. The agenda included technical questionnaire planning and beginning consideration of outputs.
Network Questionnaire: finalisation
Discussion held on the best format to request information to get the quickest and most focussed responses from companies. The final version will be sent out prior to the next meeting.
Community Evidence submissions
The group has received 13 submissions from local residents, community groups, local councillors, MPs, and unions to date. Key points raised include a strong preference for undergrounding, and concerns around the impacts on farming communities, tourism, health, environment and wellbeing from overhead line proposals. This evidence will be a key consideration in the final outputs of the group.
Updates from Sub-Groups
The sub-groups are working towards gathering final evidence and producing findings in their areas.
Outputs of the Group: reviewing evidence and discussion on potential recommendations
The group started preliminary discussions on areas of agreement from the evidence reviews so far, which will be continued at further meetings. The group is working to drafting its report and recommendations by the end of March 2025. It was agreed that the scale and complexity of the area of research will mean that it is extremely likely that some specific further work will be needed past this point.
