The Disability Rights Taskforce aims to remove inequalities experienced by disabled people in society, beyond the COVID-19 pandemic.

In July 2021, the Disability Equality Forum published the . 

The report highlights inequalities experienced by disabled people in society, particularly during the coronavirus pandemic.

A part of the Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ Government’s response to the report was to establish the Disability Rights Taskforce.

To address the issues highlighted in the report, the Taskforce works collaboratively with:

  • people with lived experience and expertise
  • disabled people’s organisations
  • Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖpolicy leads
  • other interested bodies/organisations

Our work is based on a common understanding of the Social Model of Disability, human rights, lived experience and co-production.

Priority areas

Our priority areas of work are: 

  1. embedding and understanding of the Social Model of Disability (across Wales)
  2. access to services (including communications and technology)
  3. independent living: social care
  4. independent living: health
  5. travel
  6. employment and income
  7. affordable and accessible housing
  8. children and young people
  9. access to justice
  10. wellbeing (as a workshop)

The Taskforce will consider the key recommendations required to achieve improvements for disabled children and adults in Wales, which the Îʶ¦ÓéÀÖ Government, wider public services and disabled people will work together to deliver on.
