- ensure schools and settings have equal access to support which is not dependant on location or schools’ awareness
- assist spatial disparities for schools and settings.
5. Purpose of the scheme
The Curriculum for Wales grant support programme supports the expertise of educational organisations and other key delivery partners to align their support with the CfW against the evolving needs of the sector. Even though there has been curriculum support related funding to educational organisations over time, provision will offer tailored support and impact increasing support for schools and settings.
One of the challenges faced by schools and settings in realising the CfW is access to support. The support programme considers barriers to learning that exist and targets support to priority areas which have been identified, including national priorities for literacy and numeracy development. The support programme is aimed at enabling schools and settings to meet the needs of all learners so they can reach their full potential and thrive.
The programme considers other barriers to learning which exist alongside economic disadvantage. Learners from disadvantaged backgrounds have poorer future job and income prospects. These differences have become more acute due to the impact of COVID-19. But the chances of these learners progressing, given their background, is also affected by where they live. Grantees will work with partners to identify those areas where funding has most impact and work with local authorities and others on ensuring more consistent funding and provision of support.
The programme’s aim to improve standards and provide a solid foundation with a more consistent approach across Wales. The grant projects cover a range of curriculum priority areas to reflect schools and settings’ need which includes focus on literacy, mathematics and numeracy, science and technology, music and foundation learning.
